Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is thought to be triggered by genetic and environmental factors, although the uncertainty surrounding this disease makes it challenging to identify early. There are often delays in diagnosis, and there are still no curative treatments available. This session will discuss the underlying pathophysiology of ALS, currently approved supportive therapies, and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to care for patients with this multisystem neurodegenerative disorder.
Supported by an independent educational grant from Amylyx.
Learning Objectives:
Summarize the underlying pathophysiology of ALS
Identify challenges and opportunities in the accurate and early diagnosis of ALS
Evaluate the efficacy and safety of currently approved disease - modifying and symptom - based therapies for patients with ALS
Implement multidisciplinary and patient - centric management strategies for patients with ALS
