Laurie Keefer, PhD is Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and a clinical health psychologist with 20 years of experience in gastroenterology. She is the Director of the Mount Sinai Hospital-NYC's IBD subspecialty medical home, known as Gaining Resilience through Transitions (GRitT-IBD). Dr Keefer's research focuses on the application of positive psychology principles such as resilience, optimism and self-efficacy to enhance disease self-management and prevent the onset of mental health comorbidities in IBD. Dr Keefer's expertise in behavioral intervention science has led to sustained NIH and PCORI funding for behavioral intervention trials including gut-directed hypnotherapy and cognitive-behavior therapy for a range of chronic digestive diseases.
